15: Women of the Arab Spring

In this episode of Diwaniyya, part of our special Women in Public Life in the Middle East, Dayan Center Researcher Mira Tzoreff discusses women's roles in the recent Arab Spring uprisings. She explains that while the Arab Spring inspired them to protest, Middle Eastern women have in fact been fighting for their civil, political, and human rights for decades. She also describes a shift in the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood's stance on the right of women to participate in political life and to hold public office -- a signal that the women's place in society (at least in Egypt) is changing for the better.
