The Hidden World of Girls

This month on Diwaniyya, we're talking about Women in Public Life in the Middle East: the ways in which women have taken part in legislative politics, activist movements, and the Arab Spring uprisings — and how women have been largely confined to the domestic sphere and kept from fully participating in public affairs.

The Hidden World of Girls, a special series of radio documentaries produced by the Kitchen Sisters and National Public Radio, delves into the extraordinary lives of women who made their mark on society, as well as women whose voices are far too seldom heard. The stories take place all over the world — many of them in the Middle East. The entire series is highly recommended, but here's a short list of stories related to the Middle East and/ or Islam:
